FAQs

  • First sessions are often when therapists and clients get to know each other and see if it’s a right fit. We may go over history, why you’ve decided to make an appointment, or what’s been going on in life lately. My approach is client-centered, so you get to choose where the session can go. Typically we will create goals for what you would like to get from therapy and create a space for you to feel comfortable being yourself.

  • Frequency depends on what your goals are. Many of my clients are either weekly or biweekly however, with busy schedules or a low need, I have a few monthly or PRN (as needed) available. I suggest that any new client try weekly or biweekly to build rapport and so you can see if this is a good therapeutic relationship for you.

  • This is a question I get from MANY people. So if you’ve ever thought this, know that you’re not alone. My view on therapy is that it helps to mimic relationships in real life. This is a space where you get to speak with an objective person that will not judge you and will create a comfortable environment where you get to be emotional, goofy, serious, genuine, etc. I’ve had some clients feel like they’re “tattling” on a loved one or that they’re complaining about things they “should” be more grateful for. It’s all normal. We can’t keep it all in all the time. I encourage my clients to be human and to have gentleness with themselves.

  • I work with adults typicallyover the age of 22 that have motivation for change or relief in their lives. Therapy can be for consistent check ins or a deeper dive into anxieties and traumas that have affected your life. My specialities are grief and trauma, however I see a wide range of people that would like a person to talk to that they know will hear them.

  • In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and psychotherapist. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client. However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule. These exceptions include:

Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse. The therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person. The therapist is required to notify the police.

If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure their safety. However, if an individual does not cooperate, additional measures may need to be taken.
